Overview
The Intelligent Transportation Thrust offers postgraduate research programs leading to the PhD degrees with intelligent transportation engineering and technologies as a major focus. Areas of research may include big data for transportation and mobility; connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV); operation and management of urban rail transit systems; green aviation technologies; transportation electrification; shared mobility, mobility as a service (MaaS); integrated sensing, communications and computing for transportation; safety and efficiency of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV); automated port operations and shipping logistics; urban computing and spatio-temporal data mining and low altitude space economy. The programs will provide a well-rounded education as well as rigorous research training to prepare students to become versatile and knowledgeable and to achieve the following objectives.
- PhD graduates should be capable of conducting high-quality original research, creating new knowledge, deriving valuable insights, and making tangible impacts on academia and the field.
Program Details
Normative Program Duration
PhD
Full-time:
- 3 years (with a relevant research master's degree),
- 4 years (without a relevant research master's degree)
Part-time:
- 6 years
Medium of Instruction
- All lectures and materials are in English.
Postgraduate Scholarship
PhD
Full-time:
- The PGS rate will be CNY15,000 per month for 2024-25, up to 4 years for full-time PhD students

Graduation on Completion of Studies
When students have completed the degree requirements for an award, they will be included in the list of potential graduates.
To be considered for graduation, PhD student must:
- Complete the courses specified for the program;
- Achieve a graduation grade average of at least 2.850 in the courses used to satisfy the program requirements;
- Attain a pass in the thesis examination;
- Complete the program within the specified time limit.
